Central Texas BBQ Tour

Central Texas has some of the best BBQ in the state, and plenty of it. We all have a friend who swears their favorite bbq place is "The Best," so take this self-guided Central Texas BBQ crawl and decide for yourself. You can do one, or all of the stops. Really all that matters is you didn't even go for the sauce, because the bbq is too good.

All 3 destinations are in total, 1 hour and 32 min apart, and it can be done in a day if you eat 3 meals of bbq.

1. The Original Terry Blacks BBQ

If you only get to one, this is it. Head down to Lockhart, Texas and check out Terry Blacks BBQ. Grab a seat at one of the picnic style tables and order some of the best Texas BBQ there is. Brisket, turkey, ribs, and all the proper bbq sides are on the menu at Terry Blacks. Order the turkey bbq sandwich, with so much smoke flavor the turkey is perfectly tender. Friendly staff and a Texas smoke ring on all the bbq is why Blacks is the first stop on the tour.

2. Interstellar BBQ

This Austin bbq joint has received a Michelin Star in their BBQ category. Thier brisket is Heartbrand Akaushi Beef smoked low and slow over post oak. Their short rib comes with a house-made chimichurri and the sides are traditional done right, with mac and gouda, jalapeno slaw, and chorizo corn grits. For the more adventurous eater- the pulled lamb shoulder and frito pie inspired sausage are a welcome detour from the everyday bbq menu. Here are the Sunday Specials, an even more gourmet menu than their everyday dishes.

3. BBQ Family Style At The Salt Lick

Last stop on the tour is The Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas. The atmosphere is fun and and family style, and you can get any meat you can think of, including bison ribs Their brisket has that Texas proper smoke ring and you can order prime rib on Sundays. If you are more of a dessert person, Texas Chocolate Pecan Pie or one of their cobblers with ice cream might be the move.
